Pembroke U11 Girls vs Malahide A, league Game 1, Sunday 22nd May 2016 (away)

The Under 11 Girls kicked off their league campaign away to Malahide’s A Team on Sunday 22nd May. Malahide won the toss and elected to field first.

Joint Captain, Lainey Martin, & Annalinh McDonald opened for PCC with Annalinh hitting 16 including two 4’s. Kimli McDonald and Caoimhe Moore continued the strong batting performance with Kimli hitting two 4’s in a wonderful total of 19 runs and Caoimhe protecting her wicket for no loss. Isabel Corbett and Ondine Travers continued the good work with 25 runs between them for no loss of wicket, and Ondine hit a 4 in her first cricket match. Molly McKay and Anna Harold finished Pembroke’s batting against a strong bowling combination with Molly hitting a 4.

Pembroke’s total of 89 for 4 wickets seemed to be a winning target but Malahide had several strong batgirls and they chased the total aggressively. Amazingly the match came down to the very last ball where a no ball or wide would have lost the match. Malahide squeezed a single run to draw with an exact 89 runs for 4 wickets. All the girls bowled with Lainey, Anna, Kimli, and Molly taking wickets.

Special mention for ‘Assistant Manager’ of the day, Laragh Heneghan, who despite carrying an injury substituted in for an on-field injury during fielding and was on the field to the end of the match.

Well done to the Girls! A great start to the league.
