Youth Match Reports 2015
U13 Girls vs. Rush League – Aug 17th 2015
The Pembroke girls headed to Rush for the last game of the season on a beautiful sunny August evening. We were already sitting on top of the league table but with other teams having games in hand there was a possibility we could finish tied leaders - a win for us would secure our top position beyond reach.
We batted first and scored 121 runs:- Orla Prendergast (22no), Loulou Little (12no) and Anna Beale (12) being our highest scorers. The Rush girls never looked like reaching anything near their target and with some very fine bowling from all our girls we secured eight wickets – everyone contributed and supported each other in the field.
So the U13 girls Pembroke team was undefeated this season both in the league and the cup – well done to all who played! And on such a fine evening there was no better way of celebrating than by stopping for a whippy laced with toppings on the way home!
UI13 Girls Cup Final vs. Rush – July 30th 2015
Cup Final Day arrived and twelve Pembroke girls, our President Janice, parents, siblings and supporters travelled to Rush to defend our title – Orla Prendergast, Loulou Little, Eimear Mullen, Clíona Tucker, Mena Cosgrave, Kate McAlinden, Anna Beale, Elsa McCarthy, Daisy Dillon-Malone, Maria Bohan, Pippa Guy and Ciara Canniffe!
Captain Orla secured the first bonus by winning the toss and electing to bat. Loulou and Clíona opened and batted sensibly against the strong Rush opening bowlers - both retired on 35. Orla then scored a quick 33 runs and with our innings complete we had amassed a total of 139 runs.
Our bowling and fielding proved tight and accurate, Clíona getting the first wicket in the 4th over and then a run-out and a wicket by Orla in the 5th. No more wickets fell until another run-out in the 17th over but with many dot balls being bowled by Loulou, Eimear, Anna, Kate, Mena and Daisy and with great concentration from all our fielders our opponents fell 72 runs short of their target.
With an impressive display of talent and determination in all our games the Pembroke girls retain the title for a second year in a row and the Clarissa Pilkington Cup resides at the ‘Brook until next season – well done all!!
U15 Girls vs. Railway – July 27th
We batted first against the Railway girls and scored 104 runs – Eimear Mullen (27), Clíona Tucker (18) and Anna Beale (14no).
Railway’s openers batted well and were more than halfway to their target after 8 overs on 54 for 2. However, when Loulou Little relinquished her wicketkeeping duties and came on to bowl there was no hope for our opponents as she skittled through the batsmen with apparent ease ending up with staggering figures of 6 for 6 off 3.4 overs!
U13 Girls Cup Semi-Final vs. The Hills – July 25th
We lost the toss and The Hills put us in to bat which we would have chosen anyway had we won it! We scored 160 runs – Loulou Little (35 retired), Orla Prendergast (35 retired), Eimear Mullen (24no) and Anna Beale (17) were our best performers.
The Hills scored 68 runs in their innings with the wickets shared amongst the Pembroke girls – Eimear Mullen with two, and then one apiece for Orla Prendergast, Clíona Tucker, Kate McAlinden and Loulou Little. So we reach the final for the second year in a row - Cup Final day on Thursday in Rush!!
U15 Girls vs. Rush Cup 2nd Round – July 23rd
This was a closely contested and exciting game which went right down to the wire. Pembroke batted first and faced some very accurate bowling and tight fielding. However we concentrated on the task in hand and scored 106 runs, Orla Prendergast (37 retired) and Clíona Tucker (28). Our bowling proved as accurate as our opponents and we restricted their runs as best we could given we had only 9 players. With four overs to go Rush still needed 18 runs to win. Rachael Lamb and Anna Beale bowled two good overs but with the confidence of the batsmen high as they both approached retirement they managed to reach their target in the last over. As our president Janice would say…… ‘Cricket the Winner’!!!
U13 Girls vs. Merrion – July 22nd
We batted first against Merrion and scored 163 runs – Orla Prendergast (30) and Clíona Tucker (26) being the highest scorers.
Merrion only managed to score 56 in their innings – Anna Beale (3 for 5 off 4 overs) and Mena Cosgrave (1 for 11 off 4 overs) were our most notable bowlers!

With a mountain to climb Phoenix lost an early wicket to Loulou and despite their captain being retired they never looked like threatening our total and we won easily. On now to the semi-final round!

Our bowling showed promise with Ben Macey taking the first wicket in the third over. Other wicket-takers were Lexi O’Connor, William Beatty and Michael Ward and with a few well-timed run-outs our wicket tally came to 8. While not securing wickets Ethan Clarke, Daniel Murray and Niall McCarthy both bowled well. We still have much to learn, particularly with our concentration in the field, but nonetheless we can take many positives from the game.

On a windy day, Pembroke U11 girls were back in action on Sunday 20th May in Phoenix Park. The girls knew it would be a tough game having met Phoenix in the Leinster final last summer (and won!).
Phoenix opened the batting with a confident start from Aisling Keating & Alison Black. Mena Cosgrave put a stop to their gallop with a wicket in the 3rd over! Pembroke bowled a lot of wides which we are putting down to the wind! A great display of bowling for Emily McCarthy in her first match ever with just 1 wide and 5 great balls (dots).

An all-round very positive performance from the team.
U13 Boys vs. North County – May 9th 2015
The U 13s opened up their league campaign with a very comprehensive win against North County this morning.
We won the toss and decided to put NC into bat, and despite the fact that our bowlers had to deal with a wet ball from the heavy rain the day before, our bowlers coped very well in these conditions.
The two main contributors on the bowling front were Cliona Tucker and Andrew McCarthy, both of whom got two wickets each for very little, and got their just rewards by bowling line and length. Patrick Guest also bowled well without much luck, but got a wicket, as did Lou Lou Little, and all our bowlers performed very well and prevented NC getting any real momentum in their innings. Special mention goes to Orla Prendergast for a great performance behind the stumps. It was her first time taking the gloves, and as well as doing a brilliant job, she also got her first victim!!
NC achieved a reasonable score of 64 for 9 in their 20 overs.
The Pembroke response was cautious initially, however, after a few overs both David Cosgrave and Gavin Hoey got their eye in and played some superb shots.
They reached the total of 65 in very convincing fashion in the 11th over without losing a wicket.
A very clinical team performance for the first outing.

On losing the toss we were put in to bat and Captain Hannah Little and Elsa McCarthy walked out confidently with the aim of securing as many runs as possible. However our plans went seriously awry when our Captain was bowled on the very first ball of the match! In spite of this we regained our composure and although Elsa was bowled in the second over Loulou Little (19), Clíona Tucker (27 retired), Orla Prendergast (21) and Eimear Mullen (23no) ensured that our run tally kept ticking over at a decent pace and we finished with an impressive total of 126 runs!

Pembroke's openers Kate and Anna scored a strong 19 runs with Kate looking very happy on strike! The girls were unlucky to lose 1 wicket. Maria and Loulou added another 14 runs with Maria finding great form but a run out was costly and Pembroke were down 2 wickets in the 8th over. Daisy and Lainey faced strong bowling and did well to only lose 1 wicket. Final pair Evanna & Elsa batted strongly getting a total of 25 runs.
Pembroke U11 Girls secured a place in the Cup final beating The Hills with a score of 165! GO GIRLS!!
Pembroke U11 Girls V Clontarf Wed 9th July @ Home
On a sunny Wednesday evening, a young Clontarf side won the toss selecting to bat first. This was bad news for Clontarf as Captain Loulou opened with a maiden and rest of the innings saw some super bowling from the girls with Pembroke claiming 6 wickets (Loulou 3, Ella 2 & Evanna 1). Pembroke kept the wides to a minimum and super stuff Ella with 2 wickets! With strong batting from Clontarf's final pair and a superb 6 from Keeva, Pembroke were left chasing 104.
Pembroke's Kate and Anna scored a good opening 11 runs despite losing a couple of wickets to some great bowling from Molly. Evanna and Ella batted well adding another 9 runs but pressure was on Pembroke with 4 wickets lost. Elsa hit a boundary adding some vital runs and well done to Lainey for running well! Final pairing of Loulou and Maria saw another 17 runs added to Pembroke's total of 143.
Pembroke won by 39 runs.
Pembroke U11 Boys vs.Leinster 7th July 2014
Pembroke lost but have loads of positives to take from this game – these are:
- Michael O’C taking a brilliant catch from Macdara’s bowling to secure a wicket
- Donncha hitting the stumps with an superb throw to get a great run-out
- Jack O’R watching and waiting patiently for a ‘garyowen’ to fall from the sky and catching it momentarily only for it to slip out of his hands at the last minute
- Phin Godfrey’s many boundary-stopping fielding efforts
- Philip Breen getting a wicket on his debut for Pembroke
- Noah, Macdara and Donncha not losing their wickets against very accurate bowling
- Andrew McCarthy’s strong batting and wicket-keeping performances
Saturday July 5th U13A vs. Malahide
We comfortably beat Malahide’s U13s on a typically Irish summer’s day where one minute we were huddling together for warmth and the next we were peeling off the layers with the heat! We lost the toss and were put in to field. While Malahide had some strong batsmen we maintained our concentration and contained their run total to 91 from the 20 overs. Wicket-takers were Clíona Tucker (4), Gavin Hoey (2) and Loulou Little (1).
Gavin was retired at 35 and with Clíona (16) and Patrick (7) both not out we reached our target in the 12th over. A good solid performance all round!
Pembroke U11G v Phoenix 6th July 2014
Phoenix lost the toss and Pembroke chose to bowl. Impressive bowling yet again from Captain Loulou with 2 wicket maidens kept the scoring low and followed impressively by a wicket maiden from Ella! Evanna, Anna and Kate also bowled maidens. Malahide scored 30 runs for 5 wickets.
Pembroke's Anna & Kate scored a fantastic 21 runs followed by a good few singles from Daisy and Ella. Evanna was steady keeping her wicket against impressive bowling. Final pairing of Loulou and Elsa scoring an impressive 29.
Pembroke scored 96 for 1 against Phoenix's 30 for 5.
Pembroke U11G v Malahide 28th June 2014
A sunny Sunday morning saw the U11 girls back action! Again Pembroke won the toss and elected to bowl. A young Malahide side showed great potential but were bombarded with super bowling from our Pembroke girls taking 8 wickets - Loulou 3, Daisy 2, Evanna 2 & Kate 1. And also bolwing 6 maiden overs (Anna 3, Evanna, Daisy &Kate).
A solid batting performance by Pembroke's openers Anna & Kate with 16 runs paved the way for Daisy and Ella who protected their wickets. Evanna smacked a boundary and scored and number of singles. Pembroke had only lost 1 wicket in the match. Final pair of Loulou and Elsa scored an impressive 33 runs.
Pembroke won with 112 runs to Malahide with 39 for 8.
Pembroke U11G v North County 22nd June 2014
Pembroke won the toss and chose to bowl with Captain Loulou showing great style taking two wickets and only giving away 7 runs in 3 overs. More excellent bowling from Pembroke saw Kate taking 3 wickets and Lainey opening her bowling with a wicket! Super bowling from Pembroke kept the pressure on and newcomers Annahihn and Kimli showed great promise! Pembroke were left chasing 56 runs.
North County were stylish bowlers and kept our team score low despite good running from Kate, Daisy, Maria and Lainey. Great effort too from Molly, another new player who aided Loulou scoring a fantastic 30 runs - hitting the boundary 4 times and clearing it twice with 2 sixes! Great stuff Loulou putting Pembroke ahead by three. A nail-biting finish!!
Pembroke won 58 to 55.
Monday June 30th – U13A vs. Leinster
Leinster batted first and even with Gavin Hoey taking four wickets (4-1-9-4) they still managed to get to 102. Hannah and Loulou Little were our other wicket takers with 1 each.
Between an early run-out and an LBW decision our batsmen we were on the back foot from early on and even though Patrick Guest was retired on 36 it was still not enough and we were all bowled out in the 17th over.
Sunday June 29th – U13 Girls Cup vs. YM
We won the toss and elected to bat. Loulou Little (19) and Clíona Tucker (19) were our highest run scorers with Eimear Mullen and Orla Prendergast close behind both scoring 14. Losing only two wickets we notched up an impressive 123 runs.
YM found it difficult to score off our very tight bowling and concentrated fielding. We took nine wickets in total, Loulou Little (3), Orla Prendergast (2), Eimear Mullen (1) and Evanna Hoey (1). A great display from the girls – onwards to the next round!
Sunday June 29th – U11C vs. Greystones
Our u11Cs travelled to Greystones and secured a tie! We batted first and got 96 with the loss of 6 wickets, with most of our runs coming from our opponents wides! The opposite then occurred in the second innings, albeit to a lesser extent. Macdara Cosgrave got three of our 6 wickets and with a nail-biting final over the teams ended on level scores!
Saturday June 28th – U13A Cup vs. Phoenix
We batted first and displayed a solid performance with both Gavin Hoey and JJ Garth being retired on 35. We made a total of 111 from our 20 overs. Phoenix had some very strong batsmen and despite a great runout in the 7th over we never really looked like we would contain our opponents and they reached their target in the last over.
Wednesday June 18th - U11A Cup vs. YMCA
We always knew this match would be difficult for our young u11s and this proved to be the case. YM have a mature, experienced side and with precise bowling we rapidly lost wickets and scored just 47 in total – L Little (15).
With such a low target to achieve YM set about doing this quickly and with Tim Tector and Henry Thompson in flying form the match ended in the 7th over. A comprehensive defeat but a good experience for our boys – plenty of work to do!
Tuesday June 17th – U13As vs. Terenure
On a glorious summer’s evening we played Terenure’s U13s. We batted first and scored an impressive 142 runs with retirements from Jamie Pullen (35) and David Cosgrave (35). Patrick Guest scored 32no.
Clíona Tucker took a wicket on the very first ball of Terenure’s innings and while Senan Jones was retired after scoring a swift 35, Pembroke was always on top and bowled out our opponents in the 20th over. L Little 2-2, C Tucker 2-7, E Mullen 1-7, J Pullen 1-8, P Guest 1-26.
Monday June 16th – U13 Girls vs. The Hills.
Unbeaten in the league so far this year The Hills would be one of our strongest challengers and it certainly seemed that way when the team arrived in Pembroke full of confidence with a set of girls that towered over our girls! We lost the toss and The Hills opted to bat.
Orla Prendergast took our first wicket in the second over and Clíona Tucker took the second in the third over. Eimear Mullen bowled a double-wicket maiden in the 6th as did Loulou Little in the 7th. Elsa McCarthy kept wicket throughout and did a great job. The Hills were rattled at just 21 for 6 after 10 overs. Mena Cosgrave took a fine wicket in the 11th over and having kept their strongest batsmen until the last pair The Hills final score was 79 for 7 (net 44). Great fielding and good focus from all the Pembroke players.
The Hills also displayed fine bowling but with good concentration from our girls we kept the runs ticking over. Loulou (19), Clíona (12) and Orla (25) were our highest scorers but with Eimear, Daisy, Anna, Kate and Lucy guarding their wickets well we were deemed outright winners by 31 runs – a fantastic performance from all the girls and one to be proud of!
Sunday June 15th – U13A vs. North Kildare
North Kildare visited the Broke on a second consecutive day, this time to play our U13As. On winning the toss we elected to bat and with solid performances from L Little (23), D Cosgrave (19) and P Guest (31) we amassed a total of 136 runs from our 20 overs. Our bowling and fielding was tight, accurate and concentrated and we bowled out our opponents for 30 in the 16thover with E Mullen taking two wickets. Other single wicket takers were O Prendergast, P Guest, L Little and H Little. A comprehensive victory!
Saturday June 14th – U11 Girls vs. Merrion
On a beautiful cloudy Saturday morning, Pembroke U11 girls were back in action again Merrion CC. Pembroke won the toss and opted to bowl. Captain Loulou opened the bowling with a wicket and later bowled a maiden in the 14th over for good measure! Merrion's Maya and Niamh scored 15 runs losing two wickets, the second from Mena who went on to bowl a hat-trick. Wickets were taken also by Daisy (2) and newcomer Lainey also two - an awesome performance on her first match! Ella kept the bowling tight with great style from Kate getting her wicket and putting a stop to (a very talented) Abigale from Merrion who clocked up 10 runs. Consistently slick keeping from Maria and more great bowling from Pembroke's Anna meant the team got 10 wickets and so were chasing only 104.
Loulou and Daisy scored a terrific 30 runs with 4 boundaries from Pembroke's Captain and a fine 8 runs from Daisy. Ella and Anna clocked up another 8 runs; Anna hitting a boundary and both fiercly protecting their wickets. Next up saw Kate and Maria scoring 14 runs with Maria hitting a beauty over the boundary! Pembroke's first wicket was lost in the 12th to Merrion's Lucy and another wicket was lost in the final shot of the last over to Niamh. Solid batting from Lainey (3 runs) and Mena (9) saw Pembroke win comfortably with 187. Fantastic perfomance - go U11s Girls!Final score: Pembroke 187 : Merrion 104
Saturday June 14th – U11C vs. North Kildare
The only winner in this match was the amount of wide balls bowled by both sides – 63 in total! Pembroke fielded first and took 5 wickets, Jack O’Riordan 2, Lexi O’Connor 1, Philip Breen 1 and Michael O’Connor 1. We in turn lost 4 wickets with Ethan Clarke and Cormac Morris being the main run scorers. Pembroke won narrowly by 3 runs!
Thursday June 12th – U13 Girls vs.Terenure
This was the first match ever for the Terenure girls and the Pembroke girls were dominant from the outset. They batted first and we took 10 wickets in total with a hat-trick each for Loulou Little and Orla Prendergast. We lost no wickets when batting and we displayed a good solid performance with many boundaries scored. Our next match against the Hills will be a different story where the opposition will be experienced, skilled and determined!
Tuesday June 10th – U13A vs. Balbriggan
Balbriggan batted first and although they were slow to score they had lost only 2 wickets halfway through their innings. In the second half their opener continued to score (J Kavanagh 22) and aided by many byes and wides from our bowling their total reached 75.
Full of confidence in achieving this relatively low target we marched out to bat. This however was quickly eroded when we found ourselves on 20 for 5 after only 5 overs! Redemption came in the form off JJ Garth who was retired after scoring a quick-fire 38 and then with Eimear Mullen (15no) and Jeremy Joy (8no) putting up a good partnership we reached our mark in the 17thover. Too close for comfort!
Sunday June 8th – U11A vs. Phoenix
Under ominous skies Pembroke’s young U11 team headed to Phoenix where we won the toss and elected to bat. Loulou Little scored an impressive 25no but after that we found it difficult to score against good accurate bowling and tight fielding. We did manage to get 7 wickets when fielding but with Phoenix’s quick running between the wickets they won easily by 28 runs.
Pembroke U11 girls V Clontarf, venue Clontarf, Date 29th May
The Pembroke U11 girls narrowly beat a very strong and fast Clontarf side. Pembroke opened the bowling with Captain Loulou bowling a tight first over only giving away 2 runs! Anna and Evanna kept up the pressure against the first Clontarf pair Keeva and Aoibhe who got 17 runs in total. Clontarf didn't give away any wickets until the 10th over when Anna bowled a beauty against Clontarf's Orla! This opened the door for Mena (2 wickets) Evanna and Loulou, Elsa kept well throughout and great bowling form from Kate, Ella and Daisy kept pressure on Clontarf! Pembroke took 5 wickets in total. Solid batting for Clontarf with 5 boundaries saw the first innings with Clontarf 70-5.Pembroke's Mena and Anna opened the batting hitting a couple of boundaries but losing 1 wicket. Kate and Ella scored solidly protecting their wickets. Pressure was put on Pembroke's third pair, Evanna and Daisy, with bowling prowess from Clontarf's Molly and Keeva. In the last over, Captain Loulou hit a boundary for Pembroke to win 72-5. Tight game, great opposition!
Sunday May 25th
The U11s travelled to Clontarf on Sunday morning and put on a brave performance against an experienced side. We batted first and while we lost only five wickets we found it difficult to score runs – net total 43. Clontarf lost four wickets in the first two overs with some great bowling by Loulou Little and Jeremy Joy. By the end of twenty overs they had however accumulated a net total of 60, winning by 17 runs.
Saturday May 24th
The U13s faced a determined Phoenix side on Saturday and winning the toss we elected to bat first. With very accurate bowling and tight concentrated fielding we found it difficult to score runs and at the end of our innings we had limped to a total of 70 precious runs. However our bowling attack was equally precise and while our opponents envisaged cruising to an easy victory this did not prove to be the case. With one ball left to bowl in the innings the sides were tied on 70 so the pressure on both teams was intense. Unfortunately Phoenix managed to scramble a run and won by a single run!
Monday May 20th
The U11Cs were back in action in Leinster CC on Monday evening and with another good bowling performance from our side Leinster scored 75 runs and lost 6 wickets. In reply we scored 74 runs but losing only 5 wickets we won by 4 runs!
Sunday May 18th
The U11A team travelled to Balbriggan to start their season and batting first we lost vital early wickets through silly run-outs. Our score ticked along however and with Noah Smith (15) and Jeremy Joy (14) batting well we reached 110 with a loss of 8 wickets. Our bowling proved excellent and with many maidens bowled and wickets attained (M Cosgrave 2-2, D Tucker 3-5) we won comfortably by 32 runs.
Sunday May 18th
Our U13As knew they had a tough battle ahead of them facing a strong Clontarf side on Sunday morning in the ‘Broke. This was evident when runs proved difficult to score and we managed to reach 82 runs from our 20 overs (D Cosgrave 23, JJ Garth 19). It proved equally tough for Clontarf however and with some great bowling performances (JJ Garth 2-2, C Tucker 4-3) they fell short of their target by 20 runs. So a winning start for the U13s.
Thursday May 15th
The U11 girls had a comprehensive 45 run win over YM. Everyone participated as we amassed 68 runs and lost only 4 wickets. We took 6 six wickets and with many dot balls bowled we kept YM’s runs to a minimum. Well done girls!
Tuesday May 13th
Pembroke’s U11Cs played a great game of cricket in YM on Tuesday and deservedly won by 1 run! With YM batting first we restricted their runs with good concentrated fielding and we secured five well-earned wickets - I each for James Verdon, James Cunningham and Cormac Morris and 2 for Donncha Tucker. We batted positively and maturely (Noah Smith and Cormac Morris top scoring) and gradually accumulated the runs losing only 1 wicket en route to a very narrow victory!
Youth Match Reports 2013
U11 Girls vs. Phoenix – 6 August 2013
We were emphatic winners today in Pembroke beating Phoenix by 74 runs. All our girls bowled well with a wicket apiece for Loulou, Clíona, Eimear, Kate and Grace. These together with two well-orchestrated run-outs brought our tally to 7 with Phoenix scoring only 55 runs (net 20).
We scored 99 runs with all the girls scoring well and losing only 1 wicket we were comfortable victors! Well done all!
U13A v YMCA - 1 August 2013
On a cloudy windy evening, YMCA won the toss and put Pembroke in to bat. This was a close game of good quality throughout as is normally the case with these two teams. Pembroke's opening pair of D. Tucker and S. Gupta got the team off to a solid start. The YMCA bowling was very tight throughout this match, with runs coming at a slow rate. All of our batters chipped in with modest runs, with only D. Tucker (17), P. Guest (14) and S. Gupta (10) reaching double figures. At the end of a very tense innings Pembroke had scored 76 runs.
The YMCA opening pair of H. Tector and R. McGovern proved resolute in the face of the combined pace/spin attack of J. Little and JJ Garth, with only 17 runs being scored off the opening 6 over spell from this pair, without loss of a wicket. Pembroke continued with a pace/spin attack through A. Cawley and D. Tucker who continued to restrict the YM run rate. The breakthrough came in the 11th over, with the score at 44 runs off 10 overs. A. Cawley bowled a double wicket maiden to remove two of YM's senior players. From that point on, Pembroke's bowling and fielding continued to hurt YMCA. D. Tucker got the influential H. Tector out (caught Cawley) and ended with 3 wickets. When G. Hoey commenced his spell, the game still hung in the balance. The Pembroke bowling attack continued to be miserly in the number of runs conceded. At the end of the 18th over, YMCA were on 67 runs for 9 wickets and the game was on a knife edge with YM needing 10 runs and Pembroke needing a final wicket! Up stepped G. Hoey who proceeded to clean bowl the last wicket in the 19th over for the loss of just one additional run. Pembroke won this enthralling match by 8 runs! Fantastic result boys! What a game this was! C'mon the Broke!!!!
U13A vs Merrion - 29 July 2013
Pembroke won the toss and elected to bat. The innings started a bit like the recent Cup Match with Max Neville taking a wicket in the opening over. Thankfully the boys did not panic. S. Gupta (37 retired) and A. Cawley (34 not out) both got stuck in to the Merrion bowling scoring off virtually every ball faced which kept the runs ticking over. They were well supported by J. Little (28, including three 6's) and B. Crowley (18). The team scored a healthy 138 runs. In reply, the Merrion innings came up against a Pembroke bowling and fielding display that was in exceptional form. After 6 overs Merrion had been reduced to only 16 runs for 5 wickets with both A. Cawley (2) and J. Little (1) both taking wickets in this opening spell. The fielding display was on a par and managed to get 2 run outs in this spell also. All of the Pembroke bowlers performed well during this match, with the high score for Merrion's top 8 being restricted to just 5 runs. Further wickets fell to Z. McCarthy (1), JJ Garth (2) and both A. Cawley and J. Little both picking up an additional wicket each. It was positive to se many of these wickets falling to catches in the field, with D. Tucker taking 2,and Z. McCarthy and P. Guest each taking another. S. Gupta managed a stumping also. This was one of the best all round displays from the team this year.
U11 Girls vs. The Hills – 26 July 2013
Our girls put on a great performance against the Hills today. We batted first against some very accurate bowling and tight fielding and after the first innings we had scored 77 runs with a loss of 5 wickets (net 42) - all the girls contributed. Our bowling was just as precise as our opponents and while not getting many wickets we managed to keep their runs to a minimum. Pembroke won by 10 runs and gained much praise from The Hills manager who told us this was their first league loss this year!
U13A vs. Balbriggan - 21 July 2013
On a cloudy windy morning Pembroke won the toss and batted first. The opening pair of S. Gupta and A. Cawley got us off to a flying start and this was well backed up right through the team, S. Gupta (35), J. Little (36, including four 6's) and P. Guest (37) each retired. H. Little (8), C. Tucker (6) and L. Little (5) each performed well at the end of the order. The team scored 173. The Pembroke bowling was good throughout and restricted Balbriggan to a very low run rate, with only 40 runs scored off the first 10 overs. Wickets fell to A. Cawley, D. Tucker, L. Little and C. Tucker. Pembroke ran out easy winners by 80 runs.
U13A vs. Merrion Cup Semifinal Tuesday July 16th
Our U13s were suffering from a case of ‘over-confidence’ going in to our cup semifinal against Merrion on Tuesday. This might have been justified looking at the score after the first 10 overs of the match when our opponents were 29 for 6. However they managed to bat out the overs and score another 41 runs bringing their total to a very ‘gettable’ 70. Josh Little and Ben Crowley were the best of the bowlers gaining 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
It was with too much bravado that we set about achieving our target and with excellent bowling from the Merrion side many dot balls were logged. As frustration set in we lost a wicket in the 4th and 6th over with only 16 runs on the board. Gavin Hoey came to the crease and played a fine innings scoring 34 not out. However he had to witness a succession of falling wickets at the other end and unfortunately his great effort was not enough to reach our mark and we lost the match by 4 runs.
U11A vs. Clontarf Sunday July 14th
Clontarf were no match for our u11A’s on Sunday and we cruised to a very comfortable victory. While our batting left a lot to be desired with Patrick Guest (26) and David Cosgrave (20)being the only two who made it to double figures, we made up for it with our bowling performance. 14 wickets were secured in total with all 10 of our players bowling at least one over. The wicket takers were David Cosgrave (5), Patrick Guest (4), Jeremy Joy (3), Cliona Tucker (1) and PatricK Morris (1).
U11C vs. North Kildare Saturday July 13th
Pembroke’s U11Cs played a great game of cricket in baking heat against North Kildare away. We batted first and even though we were 30 for 7 at one stage we rallied somewhat and finished with a very decent 151 runs with a loss of 8 wickets. Contributions were made by all but particularly by Aryan Madela 24 (playing in his first cricket match), Patrick Morris (17), Macdara and Mena Cosgrave (14 each).
Our bowling and fielding began well with Donncha Tucker taking a wicket on his second delivery in the 2nd over. While we didn’t get many wickets our bowling was accurate and we managed to keep the N Kildare run rate down. As the heat of the sun intensified our players began to feel its effects and we bestowed many unnecessary runs to our opponents through overthrows and not backing up. However we stuck at it and eventually won by a narrow margin of 6 runs. Well done all!
U11A vs. YMCA Cup Final July 12th
Despite a great effort from all our players we were easily beaten by our old rivals YMCA in sweltering sunshine. Winning the toss and batting first our captain Gavin Hoey opened with Clíona Tucker and he did exactly what was required and scored 22 runs. Clíona lost her wicket at the hands of Tim Tector in the 6th over and was replaced by David Cosgrave who scored a quickfire 21. Our run rate slowed down after his dismissal and we finally managed to scramble to a total of 90runs.
With Mikey O’Reilly and Ben Brownlee taking easy quick singles from the start which were interspersed with occasional boundarys YM set about reaching their target in doublequick time. Pembroke had a glimmer of hope in the 9th over when Clíona Tucker took our only wicket but YM were easy victors achieving their mark in the15th over.
U11A vs. Rush Cup Semifinal Monday July 8t
Our U11s secured a comfortable victory over Rush in blistering sunshine to proceed to the Cup Final. Losing the toss our opponents elected to bat and their opening pair scored 37 runs and while no other batsmen got to double figures they amassed 81 runs in total. Both David Cosgrave and Gavin Hoey got three wickets each with Loulou Little gaining two and Patrick Guest securing one. Jeremy Joy and Tom Grennell were the star fielders preventing many boundaries being crossed.
Gavin (27 retired), David (25 no), Patrick (15 no)and Loulou (9)ensured that runs were easily scored and we reached our target in the 13 over of our innings. Best of luck to all in the final!!
U13A vs. The Hills Sunday July 7th
A staggering total of 161 runs was scored by Pembroke u13s in perfect cricket weather – Sanil Gupta (37) and JJ Garth (36) were retired while decent contributions were made by all.
In a valiant response The Hills scored 127 with three of their players retired. David Cosgrave was Pembroke’s star bowler gaining two wickets. However with the target proving too much Pembroke won by 34 runs in the end.
U11 vs. Merrion Cup Thursday June 27th
In damp conditions Pembroke u11s beat Merrion by 20 runs to go through to the next round of the cup. Gavin Hoey, Patrick Guest and Eimear Mullen all scored 12 runs with Jeremy Joy and Cliona Tucker scoring 9 and 8 respectively.
Merrion responded with a solid batting performance from C.Dowling who was retired on 28 but with only small contributions from his teammates Pembroke cruised to a relative easy victory.
U13A vs. Clontarf Monday June 24th
On a cloudy evening, Clontarf won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a flying start through a mixture of some poor bowling and fielding and good shot selection. We had a breakthrough in the 5th over with our first wicket but regretfully this was short lived, with Clontarf proceeding to score a respectable 128 runs with the loss of just one other wicket. A. Cawley was the best of the bowlers and ended up with figures of 1:12:4. Much work to do at the Academy in the fielding stakes for the Pembroke team as a whole!
Unfortunately our batting display was not up to its usual standard. We were struggling throughout and with the loss relatively cheaply of both our opening batsmen, runs were hard to come by. Only JJ Garth (26) and A. Cawley (24) managed a reasonable score and they were well supported by G. Hoey (19). Pembroke finished with 107 after 20 overs, losing by 21 runs.
U13A vs. North Kildare (2nd Round of Cup) Saturday June 22nd
On a blustery day with mixed weather we won the toss and elected to bat. The opening partnership of S. Gupta and D. Tucker got the team off to a great start scoring well off the first few overs. After the loss of an early wicket the remaining batsmen continued in the same vein scoring freely, including 16 4's, to reach an impressive total of 152. (D. Tucker 29, JJ Garth 37, Zac McCarthy 35 and G. Hoey 19).
In reply North Kildare struggled to deal with the quality and range of the Pembroke bowling attack. 9 bowlers were used , 6 of whom took wickets (G. Hoey 2, D. Tucker 2, Z. McCarthy 1, C. Tucker 1, A. Doyle 1, J. Pullen 1). North Kildare were all out for 53 runs after 15.5 overs. Pembroke now progress to the Semi Final.
U13A vs. Leinster Monday June 17th
On a beautiful summers evening, Leinster won the toss and elected to bat. The combined bowling and fielding efforts of the Pembroke team restricted the batsmen to only a handful of runs per over, with Leinster managing just 59 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets - 6 cleaned bowled and 2 catches. Wickets fell to Ben Crowley (2), Aaron Cawley (1), Diarmaid Tucker (3) and JJ Garth (2). With the sun still beaming down Pembroke set about reaching the target set by Leinster and this was achieved with relative ease in just over 12 overs, with the loss of just 2 wickets.
U11 Girls vs. North Kildare Sunday June 16th
With Elsa McCarthy as captain Pembroke won the toss and elected to bat first. We succeeded in scoring consistently throughout our innings with contributions made by all – our highest scorers being Clíona Tucker (12), Loulou Little (10) and 7 each by Kate McAlinden and Elsa.
Our bowling and fielding performance was as good as ever. Eimear Mullen got two wickets in her three overs and Loulou took one in her spell. Daisy Dillon-Malone bowled with promise as did Phoebe Grennell and Kate McAlinden. With three well-coordinated runouts we won easily and then enjoyed the hospitality of our North Kildare opponents with juice and treats for all!
U11A Girls vs. North County Sunday June 9th – Cup Match
Pembroke’s girls continued their winning streak by beating North County by 49 runs in ideal cricket weather conditions. Batting first we made 103 with runs scored by all and many boundaries crossed. We lost only one wicket in a silly runout towards the end of our innings.
Our bowling performance was exceptional . Clíona Tucker gained two wickets in her opening over and with maidens by Loulou Little, Eimear Mullen and Mena Cosgrave and some fine wicket-keeping by Maria Bohan on her debut we kept the NC run rate down and secured a well-deserved victory!
U13A v Clontarf Saturday June 8th - Cup Match
On a beautiful sunny morning, Clontarf won the toss and put us in to bat. Our openers Sanil Gupta (37) and Diarmaid Tucker (9) got us off to a good start and were well supported by JJ Garth (12) and Ben Crowley (16). Our middle order did not yield us many runs and we ended the innings on 101 runs.
Our opening bowlers, Josh Little and Sanil Gupta bowled a tidy opening spell restricting Clontarf to just 16 runs off 4 overs. The pressure was increased when Andrew Vincent played on to the wicket off the bowling of Little. This was backed up by JJ Garth who started his 4 over spell with a maiden. Each of the other bowlers, Diarmaid Tucker, Ben Crowley and Gavin Hoey played their part in keeping the Clontarf run rate down and from the 10th over they were always chasing the game. It was Pembroke’s fielding that had the last say; a great catch by Ben Crowley on the boundary and three run outs in the closing overs left Clontarf needing 21 runs off the final over. Pembroke ran out winners by 15 runs.
U11A vs. Merrion Wednesday June 5th
This evening our u11s played a great match in perfect conditions winning by an emphatic 97 runs! Fielding first we got our opening wicket in the second over from a well-orchestrated runout indicating our levels of concentration in the field were high. Loulou Little was the star bowler gaining 3 wickets for 6 runs off her four overs. Gavin Hoey and David Cosgrave each secured two wickets and with Eimear Mullen and Jeremy Joy each getting one our wicket tally came to an amazing 10! Only one wide was bowled in our whole innings.
Our form continued in the second half with plenty of runs being scored – Patrick Guest (36) including a big six, Clíona Tucker (17), Gavin Hoey (24) and David Cosgrave (21). All in all a very encouraging performance where lots of natural ability shone through!
U13B vs. Railway Union Tuesday June 4th
On a glorious summers evening in Railway Union three of the Pembroke batsmen were retired - Jamie Pullen (25), Zak McCarthy (27) and David Cosgrave (28). Alex Murphy had a very promising start but unfortunately he clipped the top of the bail with his bat and was given out. In the course of the 20 overs we amassed a reasonable total if 122.
Railway started their innings in attack mode with their batsmen hitting fours galore – ably assisted regrettably by some sloppy fielding on our part! Despite Patrick Guest taking three wickets in quick succession it was not enough to stem the flow and Railway were deemed the winners of the evening reaching their target in the 19th over.
U13A vs. Malahide Monday June 3rd
As we batted first, two of the Pembroke boys, JJ Garth and Diarmaid Tucker, were retired on 37 and with Sanil Gupta scoring 19 and Aaron Cawley an impressive 30 not out our scoring continued at a fast pace. Josh Little hit two stunning sixes, one of which went into the gardens and Pembroke’s total came to a very respectable 150.
In the Malahide innings, when JJ Garth achieved a maiden in his first over followed by a wicket maiden in his second, the tone was set for a Pembroke victory. Sanil Gupta secured two wickets and David Cosgrave conceded only five runs off his two overs. Both Patrick Guest and Diarmaid Tucker acquired one wicket each resulting in an inspiring 51 run victory!
U11 Girls Friendly vs. Railway U13 Girls Monday June 3rd
On losing the toss the Pembroke U11 girls were put in to bat and our first pairing of Hannah Little and Mena Cosgrave scored 18 with the loss of one wicket. Loulou Little followed with a score of 15, Eimear Mullen accumulated 12 and with contributions from our other players we totalled 125 for 4 (net 105).
As the sun broke through we started our bowling innings with many dot balls. Evanna Hoey took our 1st wicket in the fifth over and the second followed quickly with Mena Cosgrave in the next over. With the added interest of two sisters Emily and Kate McAlinden playing for opposing teams, the Pembroke side were the champions on the day containing the Railway girls to a total of 102 for 10 (net 52).
U13B vs. YMCA Wednesday May 29th
After a promising start which saw Alex Murphy retired on 25 runs and David Cosgrave scoring a decent 15 we floundered somewhat and only managed to reach a total of 58 for our innings. Despite a useful Pembroke bowling performance which saw Jeremy Joy and Clíona Tucker take two wickets each and Loulou Little take a fine catch, with our opponents chasing such a low target they didn’t find it too difficult and reached the winning requirement in the 12th over.
U11 Girls vs. YMCA Friday May 24th
Our first girls’ match of 2013 saw us off to great start with an emphatic win over YMCA on a sunny but cool Friday afternoon. Eimear Mullen and Elsa McCarthy set the tone by scoring 26 runs from the first pairing losing one wicket which, as it transpired, was to be the only wicket taken by YM in Pembroke’s innings. Loulou Little added a further 20 in the second pairing and with contributions from Kate McAlinden, Mena Cosgrave and Clíona Tucker we reached a staggering total of 125!
Our bowling performance was just as impressive with Clíona Tucker taking two wickets in her first over and Evanna Hoey taking the third in her spell during which she displayed skilful bowling. Elsa also showed great consistency in keeping wicket and Daisy Dylan-Malone made some useful stops in the field preventing the opposition from crossing the boundary. All in all a very encouraging input from all players!
U11A vs. YMCA Wednesday May 22nd
In a nail-biting finish on Claremont Road our courageous U11A team lost by only four runs in a very evenly matched entertaining game. We batted first and secured 75 runs with Gavin Hoey (17) and Patrick Guest (19) achieving the most. We lost just five wickets against some first-class bowling which displayed our strength and determination (net 50).
Our bowling performance was impeccable from the start with Clíona Tucker and Gavin Hoey gaining three wickets in the first four overs. Our fielding was tight and concentrated and at the halfway stage of the innings YM were 39 for 4, Patrick Guest having taken the fourth wicket. We still managed to keep the run rate down but awarded the opposition free runs by bowling a total of 11 wides (22 runs). With Clíona Tucker taking another two wickets in the last four overs it unfortunately was not enough and the final YM pair scored 16 runs bringing their total to 84 with a loss of 6 wickets (net 54).
U11C vs. Leinster Tuesday May 21st
Our u11C’s put up a brave performance against a mature Leinster side in Sydney Parade. Having won the toss we opted to bat first. Mena Cosgrave and Noah Smith batted well with both scoring boundaries. However we lost wickets consistently throughout our innings with a number of unnecessary run-outs towards the end.
We secured 8 wickets from our bowling with valuable contributions made by all. Two wickets were secured by Macdara Cosgrave and one each in the overs of Andrew McCarthy, Evanna Hoey, Donncha Tucker, Mena Cosgrave, Jack O’Riordan and Noah Smith. Ethan Clarke (in his debut for Pembroke), Sean O’Riain and Jonah Miller all provided important backup for their team. Another encouraging match from our youngest members with glimpses of the potential talent that awaits us!
U13B vs. Merrion Sunday May 19th
On a warm sunny day we won the toss and decided to bat. After losing our first wicket in the first over, our openers settled down and put on 56 runs off 8 overs, with Zac McCarthy (14) and Patrick Guest (25 Retired) in particular doing well. Our middle order managed only a few extra runs with the team suffering three run outs in a row. Gavin Hoey put on 7 runs before he too fell foul of a run out trying to force another run for the team. Hannah Little managed 8 runs (not out) at the tail end of the innings. Pembroke finished with 95 runs.
The Merrion innings started with the sun high in the sky and a high risk of sunburn. The Pembroke opening bowlers of Gavin Hoey, Hannah Little and Hugh Sheehy O'Shea gave the team hope when restricting Merrion to just 21 runs after 7 overs, with Hugh Sheehy O'Shea taking the first U13B wicket of the season. Merrions opening bat steadied the ship for his team before retiring on 25 runs. After 11 overs Merrion were on 50 runs and the match was heading for a nail biting finish. All of our bowlers played a part in keeping the Merrion scoring rate down, but gradually Merion took control of the match. The game was almost turned on its head when first Patrick Guest and then Gavin Hoey each took 2 wickets right at the death. However Merrion got the run they needed to win the game. A great team effort all round and a wonderful days cricket!
U11C vs. YMCA on Wednesday May 8th
On a lovely sunny but chilly Wednesday evening many of our U11c boys and girls were making their debut as team players for Pembroke! We lost the toss and were put in to bat. Scoring was difficult against some precise bowling but both Noah Smith and Elsa McCarthy scored a good 8 runs each.
All our players contributed hugely to our bowling performance which was enthusiastic and skilfull so much so that it was remarked upon by our opponents! Evanna Hoey secured two wickets in her opening over with Macdara Cosgrave gaining another two. Our fifth wicket was taken by Sean O’Riain. An all-round positive performance by everyone – well done all!
U11A vs. Phoenix on Sunday May 5th
Our U11’s season got off to a great start with a 16 run victory over Phoenix in a closely fought contest in sunny but windy conditions. We batted first with David Cosgrave scoring 19 in the first pairing but our runs in the middle pairings were kept to a minimum by very accurate bowling and tight fielding by Phoenix which claimed seven wickets. Gavin Hoey and Patrick Guest put on an impressive 19 runs in the final pairing of our innings to bring our total score to 80 for 7 (net 45).
After a halftime pep talk by Bobbo we headed out to field with a spring in our step but had to wait until the fourth over to claim our first wicket by David Cosgrave. Good bowling and great fielding kept the Phoenix runs down and halfway through the innings they were 27 for 3. As the Phoenix batsmen became anxious to put runs on the board they began to concede wickets and we secured two runouts as a result of magnificent fielding by our two youngest players Noah Smith and Macdara Cosgrave. Patrick Guest and Gavin Hoey then assisted by taking handy wickets near the end resulting in a final score of 79 for 10 for Phoenix (net29).
U13A vs. Phoenix Saturday May 4th
The U13s got their season off to a very positive start with an emphatic 46 run victory over Phoenix despite being 4 for 2 after the delivery of only 5 balls! After the early dismissals Diarmaid Tucker steadied the ship and was retired on 35 while Gavin Hoey scored a solid 26 runs. Contributions were also made by Ben Crowley (22) and Josh Little (17) to bring our total to 127 for the innings.
Our bowling produced some fine wickets with everyone taking an active part – JJ Garth and Patrick Guest took two wickets each and Jamie Pullen and Sanil Gupta each took one. With two runouts we kept our opponents run rate at bay. A great win for our first outing of the season!

Youth Match reports 2012
Pembroke U13A @ Phoenix - 19 August - on a warm, but overcast morning, the team played on a grass wicket for perhaps only the second time this season. Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first. As has occurred all season the bowling and fielding display from Pembroke was excellent. Phoenix were restricted to just 77 runs. In reply Pembroke got off to a jittery start (to say the least!). Early wickets were lost very cheaply indeed through a combination of run outs and fielding catches. Ronan Mullen lead the team home with a powerful 27 runs and was ably assisted by Diarmaid Tucker. Marcus Beale also scored well at the end following the departure of Ronan Mullen. Pembroke ran out winners by 4 wickets, but not before a major fright at the beginning of the innings!
Pembroke U13B @ Clontarf - 18 August - in the teams last game of the season the sun came out for the match. The game was played in good spirits by both teams. Clontarf won this game.
Pembroke U13A v Rush - 9 August (Plate Final) - on a cloudy warm evening Rush won the toss and put us in to bat. Unfortunately, our batting display all round made life very difficult for us. The team managed just 56 runs, with Josh Little (12), Sahil Mehra (9) and JJ Garth (7) top scoring. The lads set about keeping the scoring low through the opening overs of the match. Some clever patient batting by the Rush opening pair just chipped away at the run target. After 10 overs Rush had less then half the total reached, but with only a couple of boundaries things changed. Even Ben Crowley taking the only wicket of the day could not stem the gradual flow of runs. Eventually with a few overs to spare Rush reached 57 to win with relative ease. Rush were the deserved winners on the day. Pembroke live to fight another day. Many thanks to all the parents and Club Members who turned out to support the lads and for helping to organise the days events.
Pembroke U13A v Railway - 7 August (Semi Final of Plate) - Railway won the toss and put Pembroke in to bat. Pembroke posted 131 runs from the 20 overs, with both Sam Murphy and JJ Garth retiring on 35. They were well supported by Josh Little (21), Marcus Beale (16) and Ben Crowley (11). Pembroke's all round bowling and fielding proved too strong for Railway. Wickets fell initially to Josh Little and then Sanil Gupta in the opening overs. The damage was compounded in the middle order with JJ Garth taking 4 wickets and Ben Crowley taking 2 (a double wicket maiden over!). Proceedings were brought to a close with a wicket for Zac McCarthy, but not before Louise Little bowled an over. Pembroke won the game and now go on to play Rush in the Plate Final on Thursday 9 August 2012 at 5pm in Pembroke. All support welcome!
Pembroke U13A v Clontarf - 2 August - on a sunny evening, Pembroke won the toss and opted to bat. Sam Murphy and Sanil Gupta got us off to a reasonable start. Sam Murphy retired on 36 (to be checked). The middle order batting for Pembroke didn't managed to increase the runs by much, due largely to some fine fielding by the visiting side. Sahil Mehra and David Scott managed to stay in for a number of overs towards the end of the innings and gradually moved the total along. Ultimately the total of 91 runs looked a bit shy of what was needed against a strong Clontarf team. Once again the opening overs by Josh Little and Sanil Gupta kept the Clontarf total low; with Sanil Gupta taking a wicket in the opening over and finishing with 2 wickets. In what was a very exciting game of cricket, Pembroke gradually began to take control of the match with a number of fine fielding catches (Josh Little 2, and both JJ Garth and Sanil Gupta taking one each) and some smart fielding firstly by David Scott and then Zac McCarthy to get runs outs. The bowling of both JJ Garth (2 wickets) and Diarmaid Tucker (1 wicket) yielded only a small number of runs and this was backed up with some neat bowling from both David Cosgrave and Sahil Mehra (4 wickets). Sahil Mehra bowled the 19th over and took the last wicket, courtesy of a smart catch behind by Sam Murphy (wk). Pembroke won by 20 runs.
Pembroke U13A @ The Hills - 30 July - on a sunny evening Pembroke won the toss and opted to bat. Sam Murphy got us off to a flier with a quick 30 runs before being bowled. This was well backed up by Sanil Gupta (27 runs) and Josh Little (24 runs, including four 4's in a row). Pembroke managed 116 runs in total. Pembroke's opening bowling of Josh Little and Sanil Gupta restricted The Hills to a low score in the opening 6 over spell, including taking a wicket each. JJ Garth kept the pressure on The Hills with a tidy 4 over spell and was supported by Diarmaid Tucker at the other end. The bowling was well supported by some fine fielding, including yet another fantastic catch by David Scott (that's four catches in 2 weeks!). By this stage a few big hitters from The Hills were at the crease and the run rate increased. Sanil Gupta and Josh Little returned with their final overs which yielded only a handful of runs for The Hills;& nbsp; Josh Little clean bowling a batsman to increase the pressure further on The Hills. Sahil Mehra closed out the match for Pembroke - The Hills needing over 20 runs in the last over. Pembroke held out to win by 12 runs.
Pembroke U15A v North County - Cup Final - 27 July. Pembroke won their first trophy of the year by beating North County in a tense and exciting match on Friday afternoon. North County won the toss and elected to bat first making 138 all out. Good bowling and fielding by Lorcan and Fiachra Tucker with 4 and 3 wickets and also by David Murphy who bowled a very tight spell and got 1 wicket. In reply Pembroke reached the target off 26 overs for 4 wickets. Sonny Cott made 45 but man of the match Lorcan Tucker made 60 not out including 3 sixes and a six out of the ground to win the game. The team now progress to the All Ireland semi final
Pembroke U13B v Malahide - 28 July -after the heroics of the previous evening the team did not reproduce the same form. Malahide won the game. Highlights of the game from the Pembroke perspective was Sahil Mehra retiring on 30 runs and both Matthew McCabe and Jakob Millar taking their first wickets at U13 level.
Pembroke U13B @ Merrion - 27 July - a game that was played in sunshine and partly in drizzle (a typical Summer 2012 evening game so!). Pembroke won the toss and batted first. Ben Crowley, Diarmaid Tucker and Zac McCarthy each retired in what was a fantastic all round batting display by the team. Pembroke finished with 131 runs off their 20 overs. Merrion started exceptionally well with a high run rate per over. However, Sahil Mehra got a crucial wicket of the Merrion opening bat. Pembroke eventually bowled out the Merrion team to secure an 87 run victory.
Pembroke U13A v North County - 25 July - to be refixed (again)
Pembroke U11 Girls v Clontarf A - 23 July - the girls won this tight game by 5 runs
Pembroke U13A @ Malahide - 23 July. On a beautiful Summers evening (finally!), a reduced strength Pembroke team put on 116 runs in this 1st Round Plate game. Sam Murphy and Josh Little both Retired on 35, with Zac McCarthy also contributing well with 15 runs. Pembroke's opening bowling of Josh Little and Ben Crowley kept the Malahide score low. JJ Garth also contributed well in the middle of the bowling order. Sam Murphy switched his keepers pads to bowl 2 overs to seal a 4 run win for Pembroke. Josh Little and Sam Murphy ended up with two wickets each.
Pembroke U11 Girls v Malahide - 21 July - the girls had a comprehensive win against this very good Malahide team.
Pembroke U13B @Old Belvedere - 21 July - Pembroke won this match with a solid batting display from both Ben Crowley (22 runs) and Diarmaid Tucker (23 runs). The was superbly backed up by Marcus Beale who Retired on 28 runs. Whilst the match went right down to the last wicket, ultimately Pembroke's target proved too much. There were wickets for Diarmaid Tucker, Marcus Beale and also Zac McCarthy, who also took a magnificent catch in the field.
Pembroke U13B @ Leinster - Pembroke lost this game, played in a muggy Kenilworth Square.
Pembroke U13A v Merrion - 15 July - Pembroke won this closely contested game by 6 runs. More details to follow...
Pembroke U13A v Merrion - refix due to weather
Pembroke U13A v Rush - 30 June - the match was played in inclement weather, with three breaks for rain required, but ultimately the game was completed in pleasant weather. Clontarf won the toss and put Pembroke in to bat. Sam Murphy set the tone for the match with a quick fire 35 runs (retired) in just over 5 overs. The runs kept coming for Pembroke with JJ Garth (17 runs) and Diarmaid Tucker (24 runs) in particular helping to get the Pembroke total up to 117 runs. Pembroke's opening attack yielded just 8 runs for Rush in the opening 4 overs, with Josh Little taking a wicket in the opening over. The momentum was maintained through the bowling of JJ Garth (1 for 6, including a Maiden and a Wicket Maiden). The bowling and fielding of the Pembroke team maintained a constant pressure on Rush throughout this match. Wickets continued to fall with Sahil Mehra taking a wicket and both Diarmaid Tucker and Sanil Gupta taking two wickets each.& nbsp; Rush ended with a score of 68 runs, with Pembroke running out winners by 49 runs. A great response from the team following the disappointment of earlier in the week.
Pembroke U13B @ Merrion - 28 June - match to be refixed
Pembroke U13A @ YMCA - 26 June -YMCA won the toss and opted to bat. It was an overcast, but pleasant evening for this summer (!). The opening attack of Josh Little and Sanil Gupta bowled 3 overs each for the loss of just 18 runs and each getting a wicket in that spell. The excellent bowling was continued with JJ Garth and Diarmaid Tucker. JJ Garth took two wickets and Diarmaid Tucker go 1 wicket. At that point YM were at 49 runs for 5 wickets off 13 overs. However, the YM middle order batters came to their rescue with a good batting display which resulted in YM reaching 127 at the end of their innings. In response Pembroke's Sam Murphy and JJ Garth both retired (36 runs and 35 runs respectively), with Josh Little and Diarmaiid Tucker making runs in the few overs remaining but this proved too little in the end. Pembroke made 101 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets (the second wicket being with the last ball of the innings), with YMCA ending up winning by 26 runs.
Pembroke U11A Cup v YMCA - 18 June - heartbreak for the u11's who lost an extremely tense and enjoyable game by 1 run. Needing 2 runs to win off the last 2 balls there were run outs off both. Pembroke had bowled and fielded well and at one stage had restricted the much fancied YM team to 30 for 6. YM eventually made 84. The pick of the bowlers were Cliona Tucker, JJ Garth and Gavin Hoey. David Cosgrave made 26 - retired and other good batting from JJ Garth who was run out backing up. No luck went Pembroke's way on the day as they dominated most of the match. However credit must go to YM for their fielding and bowling performance and the way they kept at it when they looked like they were down and out.
Pembroke U11 Girls v Phoenix (1st Round Cup) - 17 June - on a warm but overcast morning fielding a 10 a-side team for the first time, Pembroke won this cup match. The superior bowling and fielding of the Pembroke team proved decisive.
Pembroke U13A @ North County - 16th June - match to be refixed due to an unplayable pitch.
Pembroke U13A v Clontarf (Cup) - 11 June - on a warm sunny evening Clontarf won the toss and batted first. With some very tidy bowling, Pembroke restricted Clontarf to 93 runs. With a good spell of middle order batting Pembroke got close to the target set but ultimately fell 6 runs short. Clontarf win.
Pembroke U11 Girls @ Leinster - 10 June - in a closely contested game, Pembroke got the required 4 runs off the last ball of the innings to draw the match.
Pembroke U13B v Rush - 10 June - on a cloudy evening at the Brook the boys lost this match. Whilst batting first, the team failed to post a score that would be difficult to reach. A fantastic bowling display, including a hatrick from Diarmaid Tucker, made for a pretty close finish, but ultimately the Rush team reached their target with a few overs to spare.
Pembroke U13B v North Kildare U13A - 4th June - the North Kildare team proved too strong and ultimately won the game.
Pembroke U11 Girls @ North County - 2nd June - on a sunny yet breezy Sunday morning at Inch, the girls performed well with the bat to set their highest target of the year so far. The bowling and fielding performance of the team was fantastic and resulted in the girls easing to their third win of the year. Not bad for the first ever girls team at the Club!
Pembroke U13A @ The Hills - 27 May - match to be refixed.
Pembroke U11 Girls v Rush - 27th May - on a very hot and sunny Sunday morning the girls put in another great performance and were just pipped in the last over by a very strong closing batting pair for Rush. Match ended with Rush winning by 3 runs.
Pembroke U13B v Leinster CC - 24th May - match to be refixed
Pembroke U11 Girls v YMCA - 20th May - on a hazy Sunday morning the girls continued their run of good form with a 14 run win in a closely contested game.
Pembroke U13B v YMCA - 15th May - The match was played on the mat on the senior pitch on a pleasant Summers evening - typically for this Summer it rained! YMCA scored 89 runs from their allotted 20 overs. Pembroke reached the required runs with the loss of 2 wickets and with a few overs to spare. A good win for the U13B team in their first match of the season.
Pembroke U11 Girls v Railway Union - 9th May - Pembroke won by 10 runs in the girls first game of the season and the club's first girls team
Pembroke U11A v Balbriggan - match postponed due to their ground being used for an ISC game.
Pembroke U13A - v Railway Union - 10th May - match postponed due to an unplayable pitch - to be refixed.
Pembroke U13A - v Clontarf U13A - match to be refixed.
Pembroke U13A - Malahide - 65 runs, Pembroke 66 for 3 - Pembroke won by 7 wickets
Today (29 April) in windy and bitterly cold Malahide the boys put together a good team effort to win by 7 wickets. Leading batsmen on the day were Sanil Gupta (18), Ronan Mullen (13) and Sam Murphy (11), whilst Sanil Gupta, JJ Garth and Diarmaid Tucker each took two wickets, Sahil Mehra taking one and both Josh Little and Ben Crowley unlucky not to have picked up a wicket for their efforts. A couple of great fielding catches were thrown in for good measure too. A fine way to start the season!
